The "Chattahoochee Snapper" is Hansel & Gretel's version of the candy that is commonly called a turtle. You may call it a "turtle" we may not, as that name is trademarked. We believe you will agree with our many thousands of guests who visit our shops each year: this is the best piece of candy produced in our village, maybe in our entire state.
Our confectioners prepare the caramel from scratch each day on our large gas stoves, cooking the whipping cream caramel in copper kettles to the perfect temperature. They then drop dollops of hot caramel onto trays of fresh Georgia pecans, creating just the right size pieces for our Snappers. When the Snappers have cooled, they are either sold as "Nekkid Snappers" for those who want to enjoy the caramel and pecan combination.
Most Snappers make their way across the building to our chocolate room where they are given a drenching of milk chocolate, semi-sweet (dark) chocolate, or ivory chocolate. Whichever your prefer, you are sure to want a box for yourself and one for a friend or loved one.
Our Snappers are gift boxed in an attractive box designed by noted artist, John Kollock, whose water color prints grace most houses in north Georgia. An insert tells you about the real snappers which inhabit our waterways in Georgia, as well as a little information about Hansel & Gretel. This is a wonderful gift for any occasion.
